Regent was
formed by Jay Strauss and Donald Doering in February, 1988. They have been
associated for over 30 years, first at B.B. Cohen & Co., and its successor,
The Abacus Group, Inc., and then at Focus Financial Group, Inc., a company
they founded in 1984, and sold in 1988.
Initially
concentrating on the purchase and management of residential properties in
Chicago and commercial financing and brokerage, they added apartment rental
services in 1991 and real estate brokerage in 1995.
Mr. Strauss is
the managing broker and is responsible for property management, commercial
finance, and construction. Mr. Doering has the responsibility for
administration, accounting, and marketing. Regent is an independent company
with no franchise affiliation.
Regent’s activities
include residential and commercial property sales, leasing
and Chancery court receiverships in Cook, Lake, and DuPage
Counties for numerous financial institutions, property management of condominiums, and, through an affiliated company, 21st
Century Development, L.L.C., purchases and renovates apartment buildings for
conversion to condominiums.
Training is
provided in house for newly licensed agents while the experienced agents, as
well as newly licensed, receive more advanced training in subjects such as
the real estate tax appeal process, property insurance, foreclosures and
receiverships, income tax strategies for independent contractors, commercial
and residential finance, zoning, etc., through the use of outside experts as
part of regular sales meetings.
Most of Regent’s
agents have been with the company for over 8 years, many having begun their
careers as rental agents and, as they became more knowledgeable and
experienced, moving full time into sales. The family feeling and
camaraderie allows the agents at Regent to work together and they are not
afraid to share their knowledge and experiences with each other. The
managing broker, does not
engage in sales himself. Transactions that are brought to his attention are
assigned to agents based upon their expertise, production, and contribution
to the company’s goals.
A complete
manual of policies and procedures is given to all agents so that all members
of the team work under the same conditions. |
